Batman and Finishing Strong

I was so proud of Brayden the other day. My cousin, Allie gave him a change purse. On the way home, he was talking about how excited he was to collect money for the kids in Kenya. He said, "Mama, I hope all the kids collect money to help these kids in Africa. I love the kids in Africa. I love all the people in the world." I was so proud. I love to see how his precious heart is moved towards others. . .and then. . .

I asked, "Brayden, I am so proud of you. I can't wait to see how the Lord will use you when you grow up! What do you think you want to be when you grow up? You could be a doctor, or work with animals, or finances or be a missionary or. . ."

Brayden, my sweet, giving, mature 4 year old answered confidently, "I'm going to be Batman".

"Well," I answer "Batman isn't real. . so how about something else?"

"No, Mom, I'm going to be a grown up and dress up like Batman every day. . .Don't adults do that?" I think. . yeah, there are probably adults who do that. . oh crap, are these the best times of his life?! Please, Lord, don't let him grow up to be a man dressing up like batman every day!

I thought of this story when I was reading in I Kings 11 and 12 this week about a king whose best days WERE his childhood ones. Joash became king at the age of 7 and ruled for 40 years. In the beginning, he was a GREAT king. Rebuilt the temple and everything. . .however, somewhere along the way. . it all went downhill! He ended up being assassinated by his own people and dishonoring the Lord.

As a person who started following the Lord seriously at age 5. I pray that I finish strong. I want to be a different woman after following the Lord for 50 years. I don't want these to be my "good years". My friend Amy said, "originally I thought I just had to get through this list of sins and I'll be done. Not true, at all. My original list is complete, but my list is still big, even bigger. It just keeps replenishing itself. I hope it never stops growing - if it does that means I will to."

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Wow. It's amazing that you started following the Lord at age 5. That's so awesome. You are so blessed that you didn't have to deal with all the junk of your rebellions, like I did. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

BTW, your blog looks so cute and I absolutely love your new profile pic.

It could be worse...when I was a kid I used to want to be like "Jem & The Misfits" Anyone raised in the 80's will know who this is.
Brayden is precious...I'm confident the stirring the Lord is doing in his heart will only grow in passion. You are an amazing momma!
