Thank you US Weekly

***This post is a nod to Jessica's "Dear Google" post***

Dear US Weekly,

I am just writing to thank you. For years now, you have caused me struggle. I know that you are a gossip mag, but I reasoned. . ."it's mostly fashion and celeb news". I discounted the links to other gossip mags that I thought were trashy or untrue. I believed much of what you wrote. I fought with myself over you. I loved you, especially at the beach when I could relax and read a nonsense magazine. About a year ago, the Lord really spoke to me about you. He told me that I shouldn't be filling my mind with your trash. Still, I struggled. I would pass you in the grocery store and look longingly.

You have changed all of that and I thank you. You have now made it MUCH easier to just say NO to US Weekly.

This week you ran a COVER article about Sarah Palin. . full of lies and innuendo. You even posted pictures of her 17 year old taken last year and wondered about her bump. I hope you never see a picture of me!

I thought (wrongly!) that you were a source of some sort of "news". I never knew that you were a political machine! Maybe a trashy celeb mag. . but a political agenda? Seriously?

This is ridiculous. Not only are the cover "headlines" bashing Sarah Palin, but open up to the first page and see "Michelle Obama's Campaign Style". A 2 page spread about how cute Michelle Obama is. . .Wow! Talk about coming out loud and clear with your political agenda. I mean, I guess we should have seen this coming with your cover of Barack and Michelle a few weeks ago. You know the one. . about how sweet they are together, their romance and how Michelle is "just like us" (well, not me as I'm not a Sex and the City fan!). I thought that was just a sweet fashion story. Maybe it would have been had you run a Sarah Palin story about how "real" her family is and how she's a mom "just like us". Guess you have a pretty good idea on who your readership is. . .or maybe not. I hear that close to 10,000 readers have cancelled their subscription. Now, I know I cancelled mine last year. . but, I did buy it every few months. I guess that $20 a year isn't coming your way anymore! (I'm sure you'll cry yourself to sleep over that one)

So, thank you. Thank you for making it loud and clear why the Lord doesn't want me reading trash. I fought Him for a while about whether or not your "news" is "news" or trash. He definitely won.

Sincerely,
Brandi

**Note: I promise not all of my posts will be about politics! Sometimes these things just have to be blogged! I WILL be going on retreat soon, as well as Uganda and then many other interesting things to post. . .stay tuned if you are annoyed by me right now!

I saw that US Weekly in the store a couple days ago, and I thought the same thing - political agenda!!!!
I swore off the mags a few weeks ago, but I do find myself browsing the covers when I'm in line. I too had missed the mindless reading, but was really turned off by the latest cover on Palin. Yuck.

I'm with amy, i gave it off about 6 months ago (along with some of my TV guilty pleasures!) But I almost wish I hadn't so I could now!!! Congrats on cancelling. I hope they really feel it.

This was GREAT!!! Loved it! I don't read that magazine, heck, I don't read much of anything these days LOL! but I think most media is politically biased and it's not usually toward the conservative end. You GO GIRL!!

UMMHMMM! Right there with ya! I am really getting tired of everyone bashing her. Enough is enough already. When Clinton was lying about gettin' busy with the Aide I think people weren't as harsh. What gives?

I used to like US too, made me want to stomp on when I saw it yesterday.

Great post!! I love people/companies that say "we don't endorse any one candidate" to be PC and then go about doing it in a "round about" fashion! I hate politics in any form!

I don't buy or read it unless I am in line, but I totally agree with you.

Love this post. I too love to "relax" with a gossip magazine. This is something I've been trying to do less and less. Thank you for this post!

I haven't read this magazine much, but loved you pointing out how outlandishly one sided this magazine is! I can't believe that Obama cover and now this! Come on US Weekly (and so many other media outlets) just be honest about your loyalties and maybe call it "US Liberals Weekly."

Great post. I'm not an US Weekly reader, but I recently learned that that US Weekly is owned by the same parent company as (the very liberal) Rolling Stone Magazine and that the owner has donated thousands to the Obama campaign. Good to see so many people cancelling subscriptions. I think we are all better off avoiding these types of magazines for more reasons than just political ones.

Would mind telling us what the lies were in the magazine? I read the article and would like to know what wasn't true.

Thanks.
