Pics and a Prayer

First, I thought I'd Finally post about Davis' birthday. We were sad that he isn't with us, but we definitely celebrated him! I woke up at 5 am and my first thought was of him. I prayed that the Lord would use Melodie and his nannies to love on him during that day! God amazed me by the thought that the same God who could comfort me when I couldn't hold Davis was the one actually holding Davis half a world away! Then, on the way to work, the Christian radio station was talking about stories of God's faithfulness. So, I called in and they put me on the radio to talk about Davis' birthday. . . .it was also a great way to get the word out about acres of hope! I gave their web address and told about all their relief projects and everything!!! Tuesdays are my kids day with "Aunt" Jenny, my friend who watches them while I go work at the church. Well, the kids and Jenny celebrated Davis too! She posted his 8 x 10 pic on one of the dining room chairs and they sang happy birthday and ate ice cream! (see the picture above!)

That night, our friends came over for dinner. Jessica was so sweet. She spent most of Monday night trying to research birthday traditions from Liberia on the web. (She thinks that possibly the lack of electricity and literacy make it hard to log all of their wonderful customs on the internet!) However, she did find a recipe for Liberian rice bread which we made. So, we ate dinner and had birthday cupcakes again with Davis' picture taped to a chair! We took video but it's on Jessica's camera and she's on vacation. . .so look for that later! It was such a fun way to celebrate with the kids! I love having friends who celebrate with us too. Many of them remembered and called me on that day just to say they were praying for him on his birthday! We ended the night with cards. . .since Davis isn't here to open presents, Jess got some for me instead. The Vanity Fair "Africa" edition and a card game called "Borders" which is geography game about Africa. The rule was, if you draw Liberia you automatically win and must stand up and "do the Isaac" (if you don't know what that is, check Joceyln's blog ) which Jess did very well upon winning!! What a fun day and a great way to celebrate Davis. I can't wait to show him the pictures and video when he gets home!!

That night, I also got a very fun call from Donna saying that Melodie had taken birthday pics of Davis that day. They are cute, but kind of sad. Our referral picture is just so cute and not "orphanagy" (that's a word, right?!) He looks sad.. .which is true. Melodie said he's having a hard time adjusting to life at the orphanage so please pray for him. I can't wait to get him in my arms and really KNOW him. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was a different kid altogether! It doesn't even look like him. I think he's going to be like my other two who really shine when they smile!

On another note. . . would you guys join Greg and I in prayer? We are praying about a decision and really want to follow the Lord's lead. It involves Acres of Hope and Davis and we just really are seeking His wisdom. I pray and dwell on James 1 today, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to him.". We're hoping to decide very soon and we'll let you know to be praying a LOT more if this is something God calls us to! Thanks for joining us in our journey!

Look at that cutie in the crib. I'd love to get a "Paper Pregnant" shirt. So many emails are flying through my inbox since I was on vacation. Can you email details? bluecowgirl@yahoo.com

Brandi,
I've been out of town and couldn't wait to tell you CONGRATULATIONS on your referral. Davis is amazing. What a sweet face. I can feel your excitement. I know that you can't wait to hold him. I pray that your time waiting will pass quickly. Know that I am also in prayer for you and your family as you seek God's wisdom and follow his lead. God will bless your obedience. I look forward to seeing what amazing things he does through you.
Blessings-
Lori
