Our Cruise - In the cabin = 2nd Honeymoon?

Yep, you read that right. . we spent almost our WHOLE cruise in the stateroom. NO, not because this was like a second honeymoon for us. . .but instead, b/c I got super sick. Nope, we didn't lay in hammocks in CocoCay or lay be the pool getting tanned. . not even watching drunk people try to sing karoake on the cruise ship!

Greg planned this Royal Carribbean cruise for us as a surprise for our 8 year anniversary. We were to leave Friday afternoon, cruise to the Bahamas, Coco Cay and back to FL on Monday.

After running 10 miles on Friday morning, I was pretty tired on Friday night! So, we crashed pretty early thinking that we'd have late night our other nights on board. Then, during the night on Friday, I got sick. Sore thoat, stuffy head and slight fever Saturday morning. We attempted the Atlantis in the Bahamas, thinking we would suck it up and pay the money to lay by the pool all day long. However, by the time we made it to the Atlantis, I had a raging fever and we found out that it is $105 per person just to lay by their pool!! Let's just say we ditched that idea! We went back to the room and while I napped, Greg went and got a message. We got off the boat for a bit to at least go to the straw market to purchase some cute stuff for the kids. Greg eating at McDonald's in the Bahamas. . .just had to see what it was like!

That night we attempted dinner again and then laid on lounge chairs reading books. I wasn't feeling much better so we opted to ditch out on more fun and head back to the room. By 3 am, I was up throwing up. By 8, I started throwing up blood and realized I needed to see the ship doctor. He gave me a shot to stop the vomiting (which it did. . for 4 hours, then I was back for an IV and another shot later!) and put us both on confinement. This meant that we weren't even ALLOWED to leave our room until we got back to FL. Oh, what a romantic weekend getaway.

Now, I know God has plans and purposes for everything. I know He had good plans and purposes for me this weekend. Truth is, though (in the spirit of being real). . I can't quite discipher them yet! I really don't want to be whiney either, but I am soooo bummed! As a mom, it takes so much work just to leave the kids and plan to get away. . then, I had been planning and dreaming of just relaxing in a hammock on the beach and talking way into the night with my hubby. Neither of those things happened.. .as I didn't even feel like talking! aagh. All that money and childcare wasted. . .we did see the ocean outside our little tiny window though.

I am thankful that my sweet hubby, as bummed as he was too. . kept such a good attitude. He never blamed me or got nasty. . just said, "it's ok. .I'm bummed too". I love you, Babe! Thanks for trying to plan a weekend away! Maybe we can try again. . . .

Brandi,
That was a sweet getaway Gregg planned-I am sorry you ended up being so sick (no fun even at home but on a cruise doubly a bummer!)
Way to go being up to running 10 miles-especially with a nasty bug coming on-Disney will be no problem for you!

Oh I feel for ya Brandi! The same thing happened to me3 years ago on our weekend getaway for our Anniv. The only thing is, I was only in San Diego, NOT a cruise! I would have been majorly bummed too! Hope you are feeling better.

Oh Brandi, that just stinks!! Are you feeling better now? Don't you just hate those bugs coming out of no where.

But hey, sounds like you've got a supersweet hubby who was happy to be with your sick little self anyway.

In the words of "you"...."oh my dear"...I don't even know what to say. You at least got a really cute pic of the two of yas out of it. You look so teeny tiny next to Greg. What an adorable couple you are.
Happy Anniversary to you both.

OMgosh, I am so sorry you got so sick. I think I would have just cried the whole time! But, sounds like you really tried to make the best of it, even being sick.

I'm praying you guys get a second chance! A do-over!

Oh, NO!!! I am sooooo sorry. I got nasty sick on our honeymoon and Peter had to take me to a doctor; it was the same sort of thing where we had a gorgeous room in a gorgeous resort in the Caribbean and I was laid out sicker than a dog in bed. I laugh about it now though. Hopefully you can laugh soon. :0)

Super-cute picture of you two together.

Happy Anniversary anyway. I hope next year is much, much better!

So sorry you got sick. Happy Anniversary! That brings back memories of Allison (as a baby) and I walking on the beach to pick up sand and shells for you on the beach you were married on! Sweet memories!

I had to laugh at this post. Just 2 weeks ago, my husband and I headed to FL (from Wa. State) for a 25th anniv. cruise to the Bahamas. I didn't even make it to Florida before getting sick, I was throwing up in the airplane bathroom. Not fun!

This was our first kid-free vacation in 24 years ... and we both spent the first day laying on separate beds in the hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, taking turns racing to the bathroom. Yuck!

Hope the rest of your summer goes better.

Blessings,
Laurel
