Feastivus ~ a new holiday!

Some of you may remember scratching your head at my completely oddball family and our Christmas tradition, Festivus. You see, we gather as a family (my dad's side of the family) on the 23rd. This frustrated my Granny b/c there was no name for it. . .thus, the creation of Festivus! (read the post for more insanity about it. . .it is getting even more insane this year as we have added a new tradition that you have to wear the ugliest Christmas clothes possible. . and this year we are going to Disney together. . yes, wearing those clothes!).

So, did I misspell Festivus in the title? nope. This one is new! My aunt and uncle (the infamous Barry and Shannon and their amazing kids!) invited us all over for dinner on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. What a blast! In fact, I had a dr's appt for Gracie in the middle of the day so I dropped my boys off there, picked up Allie (their teenage, amazing daughter. . who just happens to have been my flower girl!) to come with me. After the doc, I just hung out at their house for a few hours before the ret of the family got there. And, 9 hours there isn't even enough! My kids all cried when we left. Literally, Brayden played with Justin (JJ) the ENTIRE day! How sweet is that? Do you know any other 11 year old boys that want to hang with a 4 year old for 8 hours?

Ok, really this time. . back to Feastivus! We hung out as a family, played games and ate a ton. . including snacking on Shannon's amazing carmel corn chex mix. . mmmm. We had so much fun that we decided that this HAS to be a new tradition. Getting together on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Oh wait, if it's a family tradition it has to have a name, right? so, FEASTIVUS it is. . actually the full name is "Feastivus for the Least of Us" weird, right? But so much fun! Shannon also had sugar cookies for the kids to decorate. . .and she wasn't even nervous about the mess. . .or the fact that Brayden was drinking out of the sprinkle container!

Brandi - Your family didn't invent FESTIVUS - don't try to steal it from Seinfeld - there is a complete episode on FESTIVUS

we definitely got Festivus from Seinfeld! We do however, manage to make it even more strange than the original one from the show. i agree, FEASTIVUS is absolutely on the calendar for next year!

Oh Festivus, how I remember. It was this time last year I started reading your blog. I remember thinking how cool your family seemed.

Yes, I never said we invented it (read the first Festivus post explaining our tradition) we just PERFECTED it! Took away the bitterness of life (except for a fake version!) and added REAL joy that can only be found in a family that actually does enjoy getting together. . unlike George's!

Great episode though!
