Santa Pics and our unbelief (haha)

Ok, confession time. . .we are one of THOSE families. The families who don't believe in Santa. I like to think that we are the fun kind, though. While we teach our kids that Santa isn't real but just a fun character (like Mickey Mouse or Diego) we DO go sit on his lap and have little Santa things. . .he's just not the main deal around here! We also don't do gifts from Santa. . .I mean, come on, I want them to know that WE are the ones who love them. . not some weird guy who knows their everymove! Too close to the all knowing God concept. . .without being right on. . but that's another post. We aren't really "in" to no Santa or think it's a horrible thing, we just don't do it for our kids.

However, that does make our children dangrous. . especially at family functions like the Anderson family christmas where Santa makes an appearance every Christmas Eve! We DRILL it into our kids not to say anything about Santa!!! Thankfully, another year has gone by without my kids being the tattletales! (quick sigh of relief) This year, my Papa (paternal grandpa) was the Santa. This throws the rest of the family off since he isn't related to them. This actually works out great for my kids who aren't always real big on characters. This year, Davis HATES anyone in costume and will scream his head off for the picture. Thankfully, this time we just had to whisper to him, "look really close. Santa is PAPA!" He got this huge smile on his face and happily went to sit on Santa's lap! Thanks, Papa!

One catch. . .now everytime he sees Santa, he yells, "Papa"! haha

We don't do Santa either, but are like you, it's not a big "NO NO!". WE just don't do it. My kids know the true story of Saint Nicholas and have also never told any other kids. Why DO people buy their kids these great gifts and then let them think some dude sneaks in at night and leaves them. MY stepdaughter got an American Girl doll this year from her mom, but believes Santa left it. I don't get it :)

right there with you on the santa thing. we used to do it, but i would get really upset that santa got credit for the cool gifts and we got credit for the pj's.

Really no Santa - what about the toothfairy, and don't forget baby New Year, the groundhog, cupid, the leprachaun, the Easter Bunny, Uncle Sam and the Turkey - these things are so much fun - look at how much you guys are missing out on.

I'm with you on this one. My son blurted out at his school when a little friend was reading her letter from Santa, "There's no Santa!" I quickly did the finger across the neck routine with eyes wide open. He took the hint...
