Night Terrors

I have been worried about Davis lately. He has been having night terrors every time he sleeps. I know this is normal for toddlers. . .however, adopted children freak a mama out. With Brayden and Gracie whenever they screamed in their sleep, I knew it was just a nightmare. I'd been with them all of their lives so I knew nothing traumatic had happened to them!! With Davis, it's a whole other story. I have no clue what trauma he has faced in his life. I don't know the scares he's endured. I don't know how people have treated him in his life. So, when he wakes up screaming my name and saying "owie" my heart just melts.

Today, he woke up screaming again. . .I rushed in and told him everything was ok, Mama was here. I asked him if he had a bad dream and he said, "yes". I asked him if someone was being mean to him and he said 'yes' again. "What happened?" I questioned him gently. He's never really answered this in that past, so I was surprised when he demonstrated the someone was pulling his hair. He was still crying a bit and nervous. I gently asked him if he knew who it was who was being mean to him. He nodded his head, yes.

His answer? "Sasie" (Gracie)

Poor little thing! Here I was all worried about what trauma my son has endured and his real nightmares have to do with his sister, Gracie, pulling his hair!!! Too funny!

**Note: I'm not saying that he couldn't have nightmares that deal with real past issues. . .I'm just pointing out to myself that it's not always the case!

Oh, little man.
How awesome that he can communicate his nightmare to you.
Funny that it was Gracie.

Oh, that Sasie!

I am so glad he was able to tell you. It is hard to know what causes the issues. Is it just a kid thing? Is it an adoption thing? It's so hard to tell!

I'll be praying this clears up soon! I know how scary it can be for an adult so i can only imagine how it is for a child!

Better than my friend in Idaho - she has virtual twins from China. Little girl decided to shave little boy with an overlooked razor. There was blood involved. OH MY!!

I get it though - I worry about "the past" when anything comes up and yes sometimes it is just him going through normal growing pains, or sister pains in Davis' case.

Hey Brandi,

Mack occasionally has these too (along with sleep walking) and I know she has never experienced anything really traumatic. Sometimes it can just be their imagination or something they saw on TV or read about. "The experts" say they outgrow it - I'm still waiting (she is 8 now!). It is pretty funny to hear her yelling at Natalie in her sleep though :)

Can't wait to be a Wheel Watcher on Wednesday - miss you!
