The Road Trip. . Update from Brandi

I've allowed the blog to be taken over by the Uganda trip. . .mostly because I think we'd all agree that their posts are WAY more interesting!!! To read more, make sure you've checked out the following awesome people's blogs: Sam, Vince, or Amy. We've reposted each other a few times so you will see duplicates.

As you may remember. . .I've been having my own wild adventure. . .I'm calling it "Freaking Idiot or Mad Genius, You Decide?" :-)

Since I last posted, I've been to Mississippi, Texas and Colorado and am now in Arkansas. Yep, by myself with 3 kids. I'm pretty much certifiable.

Actually. . .it's gone GREAT. As good as can be expected, I should say. The first week went AMAZING. The last 2 days. . .well, let's just say I think I'm ready to be home. . .and WAY ready for my children to have a father.

Each leg of my trip needs to be its own post. . my time in Dallas with the RLC crew was a BLAST! Those girls know how to party! It was refreshing and relaxing to be in a place with people who connect at such a deep level. We just laughed and laughed and were thankful to have conversations that were longer than 140 characters! (most of our convos happen over Twitter currently!) I have TONS of pics. . so I'll post them at a later time.

After that was my trip to Colorado
Springs. . once again. It ended up being such a great week. Sara Giordano (Vince's wife) took me in for the week. I gotta tell you. . .Vince's life doesn't suck! haha I hung out with his wife and kids and worked at his desk all week. . .considered borrowing his car and using his toothbrush but decided against it :-) My kids had a BLAST. Their kids are older and were SO sweet to my little ones. The weather was great, the company was easy and relaxing and the times were fun.. .the only thing missing was homemade food (hehe, Sara!) It was a nice week to get to hang out with the HopeChest wives and kids. I also spent a few days in the office, thanks to Sara watching my kiddos. It was a great week and Sara put up nicely with me even when I was in a foul mood. I struggled quite a bit on Wed. - Friday with the team getting to Uganda. I knew I'd be jealous. . because as anyone who knows me would attest to, I HATE missing out on a good time. . .but I struggled WAY more than I expected. I think it was the combination of the team being IN Uganda visiting "my" kids (Rapha) and it being a team of my friends and me having done a lot of the work to plan the trip. . .man, I just struggled. I spent most of Thursday in tears everytime someone mentioned the trip. Ridiculous, isn't it? Thankfully, Sara and Nicole especially helped me through it. Thanks girls.
Sweet, sweet Luke. I adore this kid. When I left, I gave him a huge hug. His response, "Man, I knew I'd been missing something all day. . .it was a hug from you"
The kids and I have decided we LOVE Soccer Saturdays! It was nice and cool there. . .so we bundled up in the Giordano's clothes (thanks Hannah for letting me wear your clothes and Abby and Luke for clothing my kiddos!)
My kids ADORE Ms. Sara!
Davis and I being silly. . .Hannah really liked my camera. . so she is the one who took all of these pictures. . and the reason that she's not in any of them!

After that. . was the 12 hour drive to Arkansas to see some of my favorite people in the world, Jon and Renae Piper!! I'm here now and it's so nice to be with people I love so dearly. We are staying up playing games like old times. My kids are not so good right now. . but hopefully they'll do better the next few days.
The kids wrestling with Johnny. . they've missed some serious GUY TIME!
My sweet Renae. . otherwise known as Nae-Nae

I leave tomorrow at noon for a 12 hour drive to Atlanta. Thursday and Friday morning are spent with friends and family there and I head for home on Friday afternoon. I decided that I NEEDED to be home for a little friends b-day party so I'm booking it home a day early.

Thanks for your prayers. . I've felt them. The kids have done GREAT on the driving days. And, turns out I've needed them too! I could stand them for the next few days too. . .I am starting to feel worn down and am just tired of parenting alone on the road. I think not being alone for a long time straight is affecting me too. . I kinda feel in a funk. Pray that my time in the car tomorrow will be used well. I think I just need to spend some serious time with Jesus!

Mad Genius so far!

I'm here!!!! I made it to Colorado Springs yesterday after 14 hours in the car!!!

Truthfully, my kids have done amazing. Sure, it's a lot of work .. .but with lots of phone time and music time (and this last leg actually having a friend with me) I've remained in a great mood the whole time!

More later. . .I'm here in COS for a whole week!!!

Trip Update!

Sorry no blogs from my journey again yet!

Day 2 - I drove to Jackson, MS to visit my sweet friend Amy. The kids and I made the 6 hour drive like pros. They are doing GREAT in the car! We had a blast playing with Amy, David and their sweet baby Robby. Day 2 = Mad Genius

Day 3- woke up super early to head to Dallas. It was a 7 hour+ drive. The kids had a little harder of a time staying happy, but overall did great. We arrived in Dallas just in time to pick Greg up at the airport. We then headed to our new friend's Holly and Jamie's home (they are co-founders of RLC but we hadn't met them before now!) We went to unload our car. . have I told you HOW MUCH stuff was in that van? Seriously! I had the luggage for me and the kids as well as Greg's Uganda luggage AND stuff for Sam, Jamie and Vince to take to Uganda! It was crazy full. Well. . . .when we went to unpack we realized that the trunk no longer worked. So, Greg got on the phone with Alamo while I climbed into the van, took the seats down and unloaded these crazy heavy suitcases from the inside of the van onto the curb. I then got BACK into the van to drive it to the airport to change it out for a new rental van. Nice. All in all, it meant I was not sitting down at my destination for 12 solid hours! lovely! Thankfully, we headed straight out (a sitter stayed with the kids) to a great dinner with the RLC crew! What fun to see these people in person and not just read their blogs, interact on twitter and talk via conference calls!

Today was an amazing day spent with the RLC Crew. . I have tons of pictures. They are all uploaded to FaceBook, so if we are friends there.. head on over. It may take me a couple of days to upload them here!

Tomorrow is church as a group then off to a local town for a fleamarket of sorts. Tomorrow night is our hash it all out work night. . you know. . solving all the world's problems! hehe

Monday morning I leave at 5 am for a 13 hour drive to Colorado Springs! You can start praying for that NOW! Pray that the kids do great and we make great time! Thankfully, once we get there we are staying a week!!!

More later. . .thanks for caring!

Mad Genius or Freaking Idiot. . .you decide

I'm a bit unconventional. I know, I know. . shocking statement :-) As you know, Greg is heading to Uganda next Tuesday. So. . .what do I decide to do?

Well, of course a 18 day road trip with my 3 pre-schoolers!!!

Turns out we needed to be in Dallas for an RLC Leadership Weekend right before Greg left and we didn't really want to add any more days to his time away from the kiddos. So, I offered to drive the kids to Dallas and just bring them along. And come on. . if Greg is leaving from TX and won't be home for 12 days. . I might as well just take my time getting home. And, if I'm so close to Colorado Springs, which I fell in love with a few weeks ago. . I might as well just add that in too!

So. . .today was Day 1. I left Orlando in time for the iFast58 prayer conference call and made my way to a blogger buddies home in N. Florida! Another blogger buddy, Anne (who also went to UG with me in October) came over for a real slumber party! We've had a great evening. . though right now I am sitting in a dark room waiting for Gracie to go to sleep. . thinking the sleep thing might be my hardest issue to deal with on this trip!

Day 1---- Mad Genius.

To come:
Day 2- drive to Jackson, MS to visit a long time friend (4 hour drive)
Day 3 - Drive to Dallas TX for RLC Leadership weekend (Greg will be there to help!)--6 hour drive
Day 4-5 - Stay in Dallas
Day 6- Drive to Colorado Springs - 12 hour drive
Day 7-11 Stay in Colorado and hang out w/HopeChest Staff and Families
Day 12- drive to Arkansas to see some of our favorite people (who just happened to have a baby last night!) - 12 hour drive
Day 13-15- hang in AR with the Pipers
Day 16- Drive to Atlanta - 10 hour drive
Day 17- Atlanta
Day 18-Drive home - 8 hour drive

We'll judge each day whether or not I am a Freaking Idiot or a Mad Genius. . .still to be seen which one it is. Other days I'll try to have pictures or video as well :-)
